In the decade of grunge and hip jump style, Helmut Lang, Jil Sander, and Prada advanced another, verging on mod, feeling of moderation with their chic, pared down creator suits. As it were, it was a riposte to the flashier, shinier, sexualized feeling of style in the 1980s (think Versace). This new severe, monochrome search for suits was advanced through films, for example, Supply Canines and Mash Fiction, and ostensibly set the phase for Hedi Slimane's thin suit styles in the following decade.
